I don’t know about you, but I’m the kind of person who is always trying to find meaning in everything. I don’t like to waste anything. That’s actually one of the reasons I follow Jesus; I don’t want to waste my life!
Now and then, I have dreams that really make an impression on me. Usually, when I wake up, I try to remember to ask God if He sent these dreams to teach me something. I don’t even want to waste my dreams! I also ask Him to reveal what He wants me to learn from these dreams. I don’t want to squander a possible learning experience. Some lessons from my dreams have had a significant impact on my life.
A little over a year ago, I had one of those dreams.
I was outside a large church and trying to manage the many cars lined up trying to get into the church parking lot. I’m not sure if this was actually my job or I was helping out as there was so much confusion with where to park. There was a huge traffic jam with at least 500 hundred or more people packed into all these cars. I also happened to see my brother and his family in one of the cars, which is highly unusual as they don’t attend church.
The dream occurred during the Covid Pandemic, so we needed to limit the number of people entering the church building. It turns out many baptisms were going on at the church, which I assume is why so many people were trying to get in. I felt very bad that so many people wanted to get in but were prevented from easily accessing the building and even the parking lot. I ran inside the church to seek help and check if we were already at capacity. I couldn’t find anyone to help, so I peeked in the sanctuary, and it seemed there was still a bit of room left. I hurried back outside and tried to count the number of people in the cars still waiting to get in. I didn’t think they could all get in, but at least some could. I beckoned the first car to pull up and started explaining the situation and directing them where to park.
By this time, the baptisms had already begun. There was huge fanfare and celebration going on inside the church, which could be heard from outside. It took me quite a long time to give all the details to this first car of people, and when I looked up to call the next car forward, they were all gone! All the vehicles had left! All those hundreds of people who had wanted to come into the church had given up and left.
When I woke up, I asked God to tell me what the dream meant. In my spirit, I heard Him say, “If you truly want to enter into a relationship with Me, you have to be persistent. You can’t give up; if you give up, you miss out, you miss truly finding Me.” Then the scripture we had covered in church the day before came to my mind.
“If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord.” Jeremiah 29:13-14(NLT)
