“Let everyone give all their praise and thanks to the Lord! Here’s why – he’s better than anyone could ever imagine. Yes, he’s always loving and kind, and his faithful love never ends. (…) How he satisfies the souls of thirsty ones and fills the hungry with goodness!” Psalms 107:1 & 9 TPT.
We’re pretty good at pursuing. We pursue relationships, careers, youth, health, the “it” crowds, popularity, wealth, success, long life, and the list goes on. All of these things seem to promise wonderful things that will satisfy us, and they seem so appealing.
Some of us can spend years, if not a lifetime, pursuing these things without ever having enough and being satisfied. We turn in circles hoping that the next thing will be better, the next relationship will satisfy, the next pay raise will be enough. But we usually come up empty….
This is the story of the people of Israel in the Old Testament. Foreign gods, new traditions, alliances with new people and seeking their own desires seemed so appealing, and it all seemed to promise so much! The people of Israel turned their backs on God over and over again to pursue the wrong things.
The same thing happened in king David’s life when he pursued Bathsheba outside of God’s will. But when David was confronted and exposed by the prophet Nathan, one incredible sentence jumped at me! In 2 Samuel 12:7-9, God speaks through Nathan and reminds David of all the good things God has generously given him. But then God said something incredible, He says: “And if all this had been too little, I would have given you more.” (2 Sam 12:8b NIV) How unbelievable is that! God says that He showered David with amazing blessings, but God would have given him more if David was not satisfied with all of that.
Where in your life are you not satisfied today? Where in your life do you need more? I encourage you to stop running in circles, stop pursuing, and turn to the God who longs to give us more. The Author of Life, who knows how to provide us with deep satisfaction in every season, longs to give you more.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 NIV
Let us take God at His word and trust that He does satisfy us more than we can imagine. Let us be a people whose heart is desperate for God and won’t settle for counterfeits. Let us be a people who know the source of our true satisfaction and delights in being filled by Him.
Heavenly Father, thank you for Your deep love and faithfulness towards us! Thank you that every good and perfect gift comes from You, and You are so generous to lavish undeserved favour upon Your children. Holy Spirit, come saturate our souls! Come breathe new life on Your people, and may we fall out of love with what the world promises so that we can fully pursue You and You alone. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen!

Scripture tells us to “BUT seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, AND ALL THESE things will be added to you”, Matthew 6:33. If we are to pursue anything, it must be God because ALL things that give true satisfaction dwells in Him. Bless you Stephanie!
