As we enter August and begin preparing for the fall, we wait with great anticipation for what the next year will hold. Whether it’s starting school again or beginning a new career, we each have unknowns ahead of us.
In new seasons, we can often prepare by buying new clothes or getting on board with the latest trends to make the transition as smooth as possible. We can seek comfort and want to fit in with those around us so that we’re accepted. But more than those new clothes or the latest tech, Christ tells us to shine differently!
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16 NET.
What would it look like if this year, we lived this word out in our lives? God has created each of us to shine the light of Christ, to share grace and truth with those around us, even those who may not have the same opinion as us. We need to step into Christ’s call and shine His light, always. Timidity and fear are not our portions, but to be bold through the power of the Holy Spirit.
I see Christ calling us forward and reminding us that we are to shine His light for such a time as this! His plan is good and secure. We’ve been called to come out of hiding and step forth in confidence, knowing who God has created us to be! We have been called loved, made whole in Christ. We’ve been crowned as sons and daughters of God! Once we see who God has made us, we can step out and share with others the beautiful, grace-filled truth of the Gospel, ultimately pointing people back to their Heavenly Father, shining the light of Christ.
This season, let’s walk in the light of Christ. Let’s put on the belt of truth and step forth with the sandals of peace. May we clothe ourselves with the breastplate of righteousness, allowing the holiness of Christ to cover our hearts. May we wear the helmet of salvation, allowing Christ’s power to renew our minds. In one hand, may we carry the shield of faith knowing that all things are possible through Christ, and in the other hand, carry the sword of the Spirit: God’s Word.
Whatever this year may hold, Christ goes before us and behind us! We can be confident and continue to shine the light of Christ, knowing who we are in Him! Let’s be bold and shine the light of Christ!

Love this Kayla. Still working on 2 Timothy 1:7 in my life…but better today than yesterday. Christ goes before us and behind us – yes!! Let’s put on our armor and walk boldly and confidently in His Light.
