Lay Down At His Feet
And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you ask, for all my fellow townsmen know that you are a worthy woman. Ruth 3:11 (We encourage you to read Ruth 3: It’s so good!)
Today in your story, in your struggle, heaviness, burden, anxiety, like Ruth come to Jesus, our Redeemer and ask him to spread his wings over you and redeem you. The wings represent the cloak of his garment. Jesus invites us to come boldly come to his feet and lay down our burden and be covered by the edges of his garment, protected, safe, secure, and provided for. His heart towards us is blessing but that blessing comes not in earning and striving and working but in resting at his feet, laying it down, coming in the night when there is nothing more that can be done and trusting in the full provision of the redeemer.
In the story of Ruth and Boaz, there is nothing that Ruth can do about her circumstance. She is a victim of loss, a widow, a woman with no rights and no future. She is completely reliant on a saviour, a redeemer to rescue her because there is nothing she can do to change her own story in her own power and strength.
Yet what power and strength it takes to recognize that you are but a servant, lowly and powerless to change your own story except to ask for help, protection, covering and provision. She is powerless in her own strength but she must exercise great risk, boldness, courage and vulnerability to recognize her weakness and lay it all down at the feet of Boaz. The humility of her posture established a new destiny and future for her provided by her redeemer.
The heart of our redeemer Jesus is blessing but Jesus knows that no blessing comes from earning and striving and self-salvation. Our reward for self-salvation is rags compared to the abundance of coming to our saviour as a servant, coming in vulnerability, weakness and humility. Because it’s only in that place, in that posture that the power of our redeemer can work in us and through us. And in that utterly vulnerable and broken place our redeemer Jesus says to us, and now my daughter, do not fear, for I will do all that you ask. His heart is for us, His heart and desire for us goes beyond what we can possibly understand and comprehend. But there is only one way to find it, and it’s at his feet.
Lord, today I come to you and lay at your feet all my burdens, worries and trouble. There is so much that I cannot change and I cannot control and I lay it all down at your feet today. Jesus have your way, I need your redemption, your covering, your protection and your provision. Lord I am weak, lowly and I cannot thrive on my own, I do not want the pleasure of a moment but I desire the abundance of your blessing that only comes when I am under your wings, covered, owned by you, a bondservant of your heart. Jesus, I am so sorry for where I have strived, worked and tried to earn the rest that you so graciously have already provided for me. Forgive me for my striving and help me to remain at your feet under the hem of your cloak.
