Remind Yourself
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. Look at what is before your eyes. If anyone is confident that he is Christ’s, let him remind himself that just as he is Christ’s, so also are we. 2 Corinthians 10:3-7
If anyone is confident that he is Christ’s then we have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE TO OBEY CHRIST – being ready to punish every disobedience when your obedience is complete. The key that is missing for most of us is that we are not confident that we are in Christ. Our enemy creates doubt and insecurity that we don’t actually belong to Christ because we are unworthy, unholy and we cannot attain the perfection we believe we must have in order to belong to Christ. But belonging to Christ cannot be earned by good living, we belong because we believe, we belong because we have been sealed with the promised Holy Spirit who is the guarantee of our inheritance.
We have been adopted as sons, therefore we belong to Christ. Therefore we HAVE DIVINE POWER to destroy strongholds. We destroy every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ being ready to punish every disobedience. WOW!
My prayer is that I will NEVER forget this truth. Jesus, you are so mighty and powerful and you have given me authority because of sonship. I have been adopted. I belong to you. I have an inheritance sealed by your Holy Spirit. I destroy arguments and every lofty option raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive in Christ being ready to punish every disobedience because I am CONFIDENT that I belong to Christ!

I wonder if the concept of spiritual battle gets tough when people that have lived in survival states on the defence all the time struggle (Trauma)? I think this gets to your point that understanding that Christ is in us means we don’t have to do it alone or in our own strength. Resting can literally feel so scary, and the mind can work against this to keep us safe. I don’t always think it’s the enemy but how our human minds are created and wired. If you already have a negative view of yourself, it can be easy to start to view your own mind and responses as the enemy and perpetuate the same narrative.
